MC using oil and fouling plug.

it's not a hard job in itself - there is a tool for compressing the
valve springs that is pretty much necessary. The job will be easier on
a bench (head off) but it's ok on the car. It is hard to tell if the
seals are seated properly when you put them in, but I guess mine worked
out as they halved oil consumption. there are these little clear
plastic aids to installation you, will want to have a few on hand (they
go over the top of the stem and prevetn damage to the seal). You will
want to have a way to keep the valves in place while doing the job,
compressed air into the spark plug hole worked ok for me, I suspect even
putting each cylinder at TDC would work, too. The compressed air trick
is cute because the piston will go to BDC under the pressure - and if
the rings are really bad you'll hear air coming out in interesting
places...
Good time to throw in new lifters if they are noisy, since they will be
out.
This was a "one evening" type job.
Good time for porting and polishing the head if you can afford the down
time.
