How to Reprogram??

My friend recently purchased a 1995 90 Cabriolet.  On the keyring she
received from the Dealer (not an Audi dealership) there is a small two
button remote for locking/unlocking the car.  In short, the remote does
not work.  I changed out the battery and still no luck.  There is a
supplement in the owner's manual about this remote in which it alludes
to the fact that if you change the battery in the remote, "the system
has to be reset by your authorized Audi dealer."  

I did change the battery, but that was after it didn't work in the first
place.  Does anybody know the process the dealer uses to reset the
remote?  Am I able to do it myself?  I don't have a Bentley for this
model, so I'm not able to look it up.  Also, I wasn't able to find
instructions when I did a search of the archives.
