I have found "Militec-1" to be a superior metal treatment. It works well in
transmissions as well as in engines. I used it on my 1990 Audi 100 after the
transmission was repaired. The torque converter was continuing to stick even
after the gears were replaced. I added 4 ounces of Militec-1 to the tranny
and never have had a problem since. There is great literature on the stuff at
the link below, but sadly, the company that produces it is poorly run and
doesn't market and support its retailers very well. When you find a retailer,
buy as much of the stuff as you can afford, because you never know if he/she
will be there when you come back for more. If you have no luck, there is a
gentleman who has been in my area for about 10 years+ as a distributor and he
seems to be pretty solid in his business and has ample supply of the product.
If you can't find him, let me know and I'll get you his number. He will ship
the stuff, even internationally, I believe.
Don't mess with Slick 50. I have also heard about its "flaking"
characteristic when the Teflon particles break down and "flake" pieces into
your engine. Go with Militec-1, you will not be sorry. It has been used in
the US armed services for years on helicopters, tanks, trucks, artillery and
other weaponry. Not affiliated in any way, just a happy user of the product.

p.s. I have not heard any caveats with this product, but like with any
slippery substance that you put into your engine, you need to realize that it
will seek areas that oil could not seek and hence may have an effect on your
gaskets and seals. Other listers can give you insight into this "synthetic
effect" for example, on older, high mileage vehicles. In general, I don't
think this product can hurt your older, high mileage car. Good luck.
