Unfortunately I won't be able to keep those on the car here, I'll be issued 
one of our dull-as-ditchwater sequential registrations. I will actually 
have to do some grovelling in order to get an approval for the fitting of 
small, 'US-style' licence plates, as our huge plates would look really 
stupid on it.

And the car in Sacramento would be easier? That would be nice, as with the 
2.0 it would *fly*!
I intend to get the Fox back to Euro-spec enginewise BTW, so that it has 
110 hp. That would make it pretty quick, too. Otherwise, it'll be 100% 
original down to the 'GTI' lettering which I'll get replicated (an 
advantage of being in the graphic profession!). That '70s style is just 
great, I really love it.

No, I wouldn't. I'm saving up to do this all by myself, by buying and 
selling Audi parts (and, apparently, cars!). Really guys, this is too much.
