Why I drive an Audi

Because $aabs suck.

No really...we replaced my wife's Camry with a '91 $aab 9000 CD. Nice car,
great driver, lousy build quality. Things kept breaking that really
shouldn't have. Way too unreliable for me...and I liked the quirky side of
the car. So we set out to replace it with another large fwd sedan. At the
time Volvo had just come out with the 850, but my family is pretty fanatical
about Volvos (and I run the SwedishBricks mailing list), so my wife refused
to get involved...anything but a Volvo she said. However, she did choose the
$aab as it "drove like a Volvo!".

Anyway, I didn't have too many choices - large European FWD sedans with ABS
and an airbag. Our budget put us in the range of a 1990 100 or 200. I also
looked at a V8, but decided that it was too much car for my wife. In
retrospect...

Anyway, I found a beautiful 200T, (Honey, only car I could find has a
turbo...hope that's okay <grin>). We drove it for two years and I got to
really like how the Audi is put together, not to mention the performance.
When it came time to replace that car, I targeted AWD only...I had left the
Volvo fold and was driving a Range Rover. We found a beautiful A6 wagon, and
my wife really liked it.

In the meantime, I learned about the S series, and started to say to myself
"if I weren't driving a Range Rover, I'd be driving an Audi S6".

I had graduated to a newer Range Rover, but hadn't done any real offroading
with it. It took two things to get me out of it...a $400 gas bill (one
month), and one quick drive in 6 inches of snow in my wifes wagon. The Range
Rover was history, and I managed to find a reasonably priced S6 avant (I'm a
wagon guy).

I get far more enjoyment out of the S6 than I ever did in the Range Rover.
I've done a number of autocrosses this year, and *really* enjoy driving it
in the cut and thrust of everyday traffic. The wagon is nearly invisible to
law enforcement too...however, with its lower stance (Eibachs) and the 17"
wheels that will be going on shortly, I'm afraid it's not invisible to a
knowing law enforcement official...

I love the way the Audi handles, and how it's put together. It's the perfect
4 season everyday car...
