Hi All,
Hope this wet weekend, at least here on the leftcoast, found you all safe.
Here's my problems I am encountering on my 1984 4ksq (315k miles):
1). Trunk leaks. I noticed after the first rains, the water was seeping
from right above the passenger tail light. I did take off and replaced the
dried up bytul tape with some of that wonderful black goopy stuff on both
the body and lense. After the most recent rains, it still leaks but not as
bad. A good thing! At least I stopped the deep pool forming! Should I add
more goop or should I try to seal the lense itself. I thought if I take it
off again, I could inspect the colored part of the lense and see if there
was some sort of leaking from the joints of the lense. Or is the trunk seal
in need of replacement?
I am having the same with the driver's side lense too. But, first I'll
take off, which I haven't done yet and inspect for cracks, etc. then re-goop
and mount.
Anybody in the Collective have suggestions for these leaks?
On this, I have checked Huw's and Ti's website and did a google search (no
avail) for answers. I do appreciate your efforts Huw and Ti.
2). Interior leaks. There is a nice pool under the driver's seat with some
nice mold growing in the carpet. I can feel some wettness near the B pilar
on both the driver and rear door sils. I don't know if the sunroof drains
are plugged or if there is some leak through the door seals. Now, the
driver door seal looks new and the rear door seal is really coming apart but
it looks like its in good shape at the B pillar. There is some water around
the seal in the corner of the rear door and the seal. I haven't pulled up
the carpet at the sils yet and the interior light seems to be dry and the
headliner is dry too.
Any suggestions?
I think I've included all the neccessary info...
I appreciate any input. Your input on my slave cylinder replacement was
excellent! Maybe I'll set up a sump pump in the trunk so it'll emty the
accumulated water by the push of a button! Lysol does wonders with mold!
Thanks,
Steve
