PO didn't tell me about pentosin!

OK...like the sub says, the previous owner didn't tell me about using
pentosin. He DID tell me about a leaking hose though. So I've been putting
Valvoline PS fluid in. I've read some in the archives, and it looks like I
may have ruined a steering rack...am I correct? It's leaking fluid, even
after I fixed the first leak. The only place I can tell it's leaking from
now is at the hose on the very bottom of the reservoir. Would it be a waste
of time to drain the fluid and put pentosin in?
