flywheel resurfacing

Hello all,

Just to offer an update to my '88 5kcstq clutch job. I called the Audi
dealer to see where they take their flywheels to have them resurfaced. I
was told they just replace them, so they couldn't help me.

So, then I went to a place called Clutch Specialists or something. The
guy acted like he didn't want to do it. He said, "it'll cost you $50 each,
that's what we charge". As if that was supposed to deter me or
something. Well it did, but not because of the cost. I think they don't
like people doing their own clutch jobs.

Furthermore, the guy didn't even know that both levels of the recessed
flywheel needed to be machined to keep them the same distance from
each other. What a loser shop.

So, I'm going to take my flywheels to the first shop I went to, that has
been recommended to me for engine work. They couldn't guarantee
that they wouldn't break the small pins, but everyone says those two
skinny pins on the clutch side of the don't matter anyways, so I'm not
worried about it. That place said it would be like $30-45 each to have
them turned.

Just some info for those who might go through the same situation.

Later,

Ken
