1982 5Ks Start up problems

What Paul suggested I do is first check the air plate.  This is done by jum=
ping the fuel pump relay.  Remove the rubber boot, and use a magnet to pull=
 the fuel plate up.  You should have resistance in pulling it up, and no re=
sistance down.  Whatever you do, DO NOT PUSH DOWN on the air plate.  Either=
 my car is running very lean, or, when I lift the fair plate, I get enough =
fuel to sustain it at idle until it warms up.  I believe now, after reading=
 your post, that I have a spring or plunger hanging up somewhere.  Can you =
give me an idea on what you did in the past to resolve this similar problem=
.  Please keep in mind that I only have a Haynes manual,  (Useless Manual),=
 the Bentley won't be in for a couple days yet.  Please try to give me deta=
ils and exact locations.  Haynes allows for a specific part, but the locati=
on is not the same as the book shows.  The only thing that I have found to =
be correct is that the engine is under the hood !!!!   Perhaps you can tell=
 me this.  There is a thermopneumatic valve facing the engine on the right =
rear bottom of the block.  One vacuum line goes to the EGR valve, the other=
 to the vacuum booster.  I have the one for the EGR valve disconnected on t=
he left hand side (the EGR valve connection) ..........  I can't find the E=
GR.  Where does this hose hook up ?
