Check it for sure- it's a common enough failure- but isn't it strange that
he can maintain 1.3 bar with a boost leak as large as the MM hose is
likely to be?  Also, I'd expect a leak like that to cause the car to run
rich most of the time (lean under boost) and so hurt the milage.

OTOH, I was going to suggest ignition, and that should hurt milage some,
and be *very* dependent on boost level, which doesn't sound right
either..
