Let me guess, the side that went well was the gas filler side? If so, it is because there is more panel to 'cave' on the non-filler side and therefore it wants to suck the side in. Yes, you can access from inside the trunk. It should not take all that much to pop the side back out. Actually, no more than a puch with the palm of your hand.
