By-pass valve install - web URL

That's why I did the install using a rather boad shouldered fitting that was
glued in on the inside.

If you look at the first three pictures in the right column you will see the
original grey fitting that I fit into the IC end cap. The second picture
shows how I cut the grey fitting into three pices leaving a rather large
shoulder that was then inserted from the inside of the IC through the hole
and then bonded in place with oil/gas proof glue. The third picture (barely)
shows the shouldered portion protruding into the tank through the bottom
outlet.

This creates a strong join that should maintain the integrity of the end
cap. I has thought to remove the end cap and do this but I had enough room
to just pull the fitting through on its own.

Hope that clarifies the install because you're definitely right on the end
cap not being thick enough to support a threaded fitting.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my kludging, I appreciate the input!!

  Peter my man!

Very nice write out on the dump valve, I was really impressed!

May I make a small suggestion?

The wall of the cooler that your fitting is threaded to is plastic and not
very strong, here is another approach:

a.. Remove the IC elbow from the housing (bend the little alum tabs
back, very carefully)
b.. Install a metallic reinforcment brackets 1.5x1.5 app. On the outside
of the elbow, use glue and bolts (with backing nuts) to attach it to the
elbow
c.. Install your fitting to the plate per Peter instructions
d.. Install the elbow back to the cooler alum part. Bend back the alum.
tabs
e.. Paint the cooler black, use rad. Black
f.. Follow the good suggestions of Peter,

Have happy motoring the Proper way!

  Take care,

  Avi
