The wires on the 100Q I sold recently were almost brand new. They were
assembled incorrectly.

The symptoms were like yours and I did all the hard stuff first, injector
spray pattern, replace injectors, etc.

I was rather ticked when I found it was thes brand new wires which had been
installed by highly reputable mech.

I had assumed you have ruled out bad gas, etc. At least replace cap and
rotor - they are high wear items. I am in the habit of cleaning cap and
rotor, by scraping off the carbon, at least every 6 months and replacing
every other oil change/annually.

I can't recall exactly how many times I have gone down the road of
Carburator Rebuild and Fuel Injection tests only to find it was ignition
related. Electronic ignition makes it better, though.

Good luck finding the problem, please post the list when you identify the
culprit.

The wires are about 6 months old, and the cap/rotor are about 1.5 yrs old.
I've visually inspected them but maybe it wouldn't hurt to change the cap.
However, when there was a consistent miss on #1, there was good spark from
the wire.

problem with my '86 5kt
<snip> *it misses* plugs/injectors - ok.*

[So, what is my next step?
Suggestions?]

Plug wires/Distributor cap/Rotor.
