overheated 4kq, new moter needed? New to list :-)

Tom,
Welcome to the list. YOull be addicted in no time. :-)
The 5-byl 2.2l motor is nearly bulletproof. SO, I'm tempted to
say just replace the head and gasket. But you obviously need to
make sure the head is block are flat. Check the deck of the
block to make sure it didnt' warp. Then take the head to a
machine shop and have it checked. If its fine you should be
able to just replace it. (Great time to port and Polish the
head, maybe get bigger valves and some more compression though)
If you just want to transplant, you can get an NF code motor
from an Audi 5kq or 100q and put that in. Or out of an Audi
80/90q if you take the intake plumbing with it. These are 2.3l
motors that had 15more hp to begin with. And with a port and
polish (they already have the bigger valves) and maybe a cam are
good for 150hp.
