Yes, I agree too, there is just not much you can do with a NA 20v, compression is already 10.3:1, the head flows-too well, and cams don't seem to help either. The 2.6 conversion is not worth it IMO, mainly because the stock fuel system can't supply it anyway. Try a good, free flowing exhaust, and that's about it. The motor will never have the good low end of the 10v, and unless you can take the compression up a few points, there is not much use.
Swapping over the 3B manifolds and going to a programmable EFI system is a good consideration in IMO, drop in an NG bottom end to lower compression. A 10v MC is totally doable, but I agree with Jim, the 80/90 is really the same car from the driver's seat (except its 2-300lbs lighter), and you can get them very cheaply to start out with.
