Alto there is the occasional lemon, newer (post-manufacturer warranty) Audis
just don't break down like they once did, and when they do the culprit seems
to be electronics-related more often than that, so Brad's advice that
extended warranties covering electronics can be a good idea makes sense.
That said, extended warranties are not cheap. Measure a comprehensive
$2,000 extended warranty against the possibility that you'll be forking out
$2,000 in repairs and an extended warranty costing that much suddenly
doesn't seem like such a hot idea.
I had an extended warranty on my first Audi. It cost $1,200. When all was
said and done, it covered about $1,100 in repairs/replacements, so I
technically "lost" $100. I have not bothered with extended warranties on my
two most recent Audis. An extended warranty on my '00 A4QS Avant would have
cost anywhere from $1,400 to $2,200, depending upon the coverage. In my
view, that was not going to be money well spent.
