Yup, but the fault is not always evident at purchase. I once bought a low
mileage Dodge, er, Egdod Omni GLH Turbo and my wife wanted to get the
extended warranty. I was dead set against it as I had paid for a few and
had never made a claim. The dealer finally sweetened the deal and we ended
up getting the warranty.
Lo and behold the 5 spd. transmission started making noise 3 months later.
Diagnosis was a seizing tranny, plus the fuel pump was getting noisy and
they replaced that as well. Cost of the ext. warranty was $450, total cost
of the repairs (after the dealer successfully argued for a _new_, not
rebuilt, tranny) was $2400.
It's a coin toss, and many of them aren't worth the paper they are printed
on.
