I found the main problem.  My almost new (December) battery has a bad 
cell.  It shows over 12 volts until you put a good load on it.  And 
the other battery I tried apparently had the same fault.  The good 
news is that it's running again, I found a badly frayed wire on the 
starter solenoid, and I think I found my coolant leak while I was 
under there, too.  But I never did get around to checking the coolant 
temp sensor. Maybe next weekend.
