wonky climate control

I have posted this before but got no response.

Subject is FWD Audi 90, 1990 vintage.  (I know, I'm buying a Quattro in a
month)

When I first bought it, I knew the AC didn't work, but the fan still blew
and all was fine.  I had heat on my feet and air blew out the center vents.
Now, I've no heat on my feet and no air out the center vents.

Any ideas?
