They shield brake dust away from your wheels, but reduce air flow
through the wheel and could increase brake temperatures. Yes, they
are probably no worse than having hubcaps, but how many performance
oriented cars run with steel wheels and hubcaps? Also, they block
the view to your brake disc and caliper, which would be quite un-cool
for those who want to show off their nifty slotted big brake conversions
and painted calipers :-)
