Get a pair of Mechanix gloves...they're fantastic, well worth the
money.  They're designed to fit snugly, find the right size.

Most major autoparts stores have them, or just search the web.

They provide excellent cut/abrasion resistance, good dexterity, some
protection from wind/cold if you're doing one of those classic winter
driveway repairs, can be washed, etc.
