Exhaust temp thermocouples...

Having just seen some stuff going round on the list regarding exhaust
gas temps and thermocouples, I thought I'd get on the bandwagon and see
which ones I should go for.
I'm looking at a unit that says it's all stainless construction, K
series, 1/4" with standard pipe threads and has a 2" probe, 1ft shielded
wire with strain relief, heat range of 220F to 2200F. It says it's a
Detroit Diesel EU34-R650. NSN 6685-01-334-4952 so I'm assuming exhaust
temp use is the things forte.
Question is, is the 2" probe too large for the MC 2-piece manifold
fitting. I don't think the manifold is that deep.
Or have I as usual shot off in the wrong direction? :) What should I be
looking for or what should I go for directly?
Thanks.
G.
