ok, here is the deal with my experience with stalling audis. bought a 4000q, stalled a lot. since my diganostic skills are about that of a retarded turkey's, i took it to the trusty mechanic and he replaced fuel pump relay, fixed the problem. some time later, bought my 88 90q. it developed a
stalling problem. took it to the same mechanic and he took apart the fuel pump relay on this car, found a weak spot. i bought a new relay *and* changed the cap, rotor, and plugs. problem has not occured since. now i know this is not a sure-fire fix for a stalling audi, i'm sure huw will offer a
rebuttal to all of this about shoot-from-the-hip diagnosis... : )

but i am just offering up my experiences so that they might help you. and FP relays are cheap ($25).

> I had Tri-tec in Annapolis try to fix it b/c I'm just fed up, and they charged me $280 to replace the hose that goes from the ISV to something under the manifold. it didn't help.

holy F$*(&$&*$(*. it cost me $5.50 and 10 minutes of my time to replace the other hose that goes to the ISV (a shorter hose hear the one you had replaced), which, btw, fixed my oscillating high idle (the hose had a big hole in it and was collapsing), what a relief. what did they charge you for
parts and labor?

things after I let it sit for a while. I tried a couple powerful blast of
Techron with very little change. HOWEVER, eventually I took it to my
mechanic and he was able to fix with some fuel injector cleaner feed
directly through the fuel rail!! I'm pretty sure this is your problems
(expect for stalling when turning right??)!!>>

about that injector cleaner, i wouldn't go nuts with it. this is another story similar to the above one. the same 4kq as mentioned above recently had a seized fuel distributor. about a tank and a half before it seized, i put some "Gumout" (who knows *what* i was thinking) into a 1/4 tank at a
list recommendation, (the 1/4 tank part, not the Gumout part!) despite the fact that gumout said to use on a full tank. now, i have no idea *if* this caused the dist. to seize, but i am just including this info FYI. replaced the dist. and injectors (they broke when removed to check spray
pattern) and car is faster than ever now! (and for sale, email me if interested, anyone, anyone?) my advice, be careful with injector cleaner, use one bottle and see the results. i have observed that my 90q loves the Lubro-Moly Jectron stuff (added at 1/2 tank), it seemd to take car of its
chug-a-lug-no-power problem.

and speaking of the 90q, i would like to report success on using 4kq rear calipers on a 90q. although the piston for the 90q is bigger, i changed the rear calipers (and put huw's old rotors and almost new pads on, thanks again for all your help and old parts huw...) on my 90q a couple of nights
ago in a successful attempt to get the e-brake working again, what a relief. an overall success, although i did manage to get a heart-shaped blister on my thumb from this procedure, which can be viewed at www.uvm.edu/~mkbigelo/thumb1.jpg, if anyone so desires. also, this brings up another
question, where do i get the ATE blue and red brake fluids, I bled out some DISGUSTING orange-black brake fluid when I did this job and would like to flush the entire system and to ensure that I get all of the old crap out, the colored fluid seems to be the best way to accomplish this. i am in
Burlington VT and would like to get it locally but i think mail order might be the route i have to take. anyone?

ok, ive blathered on long enough.

hth. tia. & other good things.

Megan
