I'd be interested in knowing what the answer is.

Question: are the 5kq transmissions interchangeable with the 4kq in order
to get a higher gear ratio/overdrive?

Ben

p.s. if it makes any difference, the application would use a 200Q
flywheel,pp and clutch assembly with modified 2.3l engine..the
ongoing(never-ending?)Project GTQ:

p.p.s. New Audi added to the corral this weekend: Charcoal Black 5KCSTQ
wagon (purchased from Steve Jensen - thanks for the hospitality Steve)!

[Not that I am going to pull out my transmission anytime soon (did a clutch
job this spring... arrgh), but something you said caught my eye.

Being as I drive about 35k miles a year, mostly highway, I have been wishing
that my 4kq had a bit taller of a 5th gear. In my future plans for the car,
but not the really near future, will be a turbo swap.

Now, the question. You said that he could use a tranny from a 4kq, of a
5ktq if he wants higher gearing. Are these boxes interchangeable? If I
were to do a turbo swap in the future, I would probably want a taller geared
box, so that I could actually use 1st gear a bit more, and get a bit better
highway mileage.

Thanks!
