5ks Strut Bearing Failure?

    Sister gave a call last night.  She said the front end was making an odd
crunching sort of noise and felt slightly loose when cornering.  She popped
the hood and found the top of her new Bilstein HD strut insert poking
through the strut top, almost touching the hood when closed.  She says there
is half a rubber donut with the strut top and half stuck on the top of the
tower.  I can't remember what the suspension was like on the 5ks when I
installed the Bilstein shocks, so is this a busted strut bearing, mount,
what is the deal?  Anyone?

The car is at the shop right now by the way, better safe than dead.
