Weird quattro rear calipers longish

Hi listers!

Yesterday I jacked the Coupe quattro up to clean the e-brake cams and
springs as it seems that the brakes are pretty weak on the rear...
I did the left side and it's been pretty straightforward, except that I
popped the caliper just as to change the pads...the problem was that the
piston got out of its hole and it's been a PITA to put back in...

First weird thing: my rear calipers (it's an 85 cq) have 38 mm pistons,
whereas the spare calipers I have lying around and waiting for a rebuilt
have 36mm pistons...

Second, there is no place for a hex-shaped key to push the pistons back
in...only a tapered kind of slot on the face of the piston...
I tried for more than one hour or so to push it back in by turning on the
edge of it with some clamp pliers but no way to make it go back in...Then I
removed the caliper and put it in a vise to press the piston with a clamp
and turn it with the pliers...big PITA!!!
Could these calipers be stock on my car? I forgot to check the P/N but they
looked almost identical as the spares I have here...except that 38 was
written on them and the piston wasn't the same...
Could someone confirm to me that these have been replaced on my car by the
PO?
Regards,
