Power Antenna - how do they work?

Hi Christopher:

I have just gone through this on my '87 5KCSTQ. I wasn't able to get my
'Audi' antenna to work; the mast was frozen solid. But an after market
antenna does work using the same hookup. On the antenna leads there is
one that has power all the time (red). This power draws the antenna down
when the radio is turned off. When the radio is turned on, power goes to
the other lead (white) and the antenna goes up.

You can test the antenna by attaching the ground, then apply constant
power to the connection where the red wire normally hooks up. The mast
should descend all the way. Leave the existing connections, and add
power to the connection where the white wire attaches and the mast
should ascend all the way.

Hope this helps,

George
