A6: 2.7ttq v 4.2q

I drive a 2.7tt equipped car everyday, it's a nice
ride. Mute when you want it to be, quick when you
really need it.
The A6 4.2q with sport pkg is the nicest all around
vehicle I've ever driven. Period. Interior is tops.
Love the appearance (wheel arches + wheels). And this
thing means business when you push the go pedal.
I can describe the motor difference in this way...
When I want to be fast in the S4.... I'll let the rpms
rev a bit, slip the clutch just a tiny bit, wait for
boost then floor it. I'll be pushed back in my seat,
while listening to the turbos spool and the exhaust
start to whirrrrrrllllrrrr. A quick shift into second
and continuing boost will usually be enough to get in
front of 95% of the cars on the road today
(remember...most ARE escorts...;-). And I'll have a
racers grin on my face as the next light turns red
almost immediately (never fails). But my passengers
will know that I've been goofing again...
The 4.2q allows you to push the pedal and goooo. NO
worries about shifting and you'll be faster then 93%
of the other cars on the road.
The difference is that when you stop at the light just
after I do you'll look over with a glace of..."oh, you
think we were racing?!!! Sorry chap, didn't mean to
provoke you." And you could get away with it because
any passengers in the car hardly felt the auto shift
into 2nd and it's like a library inside. Just lovely.
Instant power and panache.
The difference in price is not IMHO negligable
however. You can get some really nice deals on the
2.8 and 2.7tt A6's, but the 4.2 is still some $8-12k
more?
I do believe it's worth it for the engine and body
changes, but that's a substantial chunk of change...
NOTE: Really consider the sport option for either
car. The seats are just the most comfortable thing
out there and worth the $$$ alone.
