Carl:
With all due respect, your post cracks me up. What you describe below could
be interchanged LSC300 for any >stock< 90-1cq or any S car for that matter.
The brakes suck, the ride is cushy, the wheels are too small, they are too
heavy - sounds real familiar to this audi guy. That said, I've driven and
been in the instructors seat in both the SC300 at the track, and also a supra
TT. The nacelles may be the same, but the best analogy I can think of: any
triathelete could live off a pigs heart too. My evaluation of the SC300 and
the Supra are so far away from each other, your post is moot. That said, the
tidbits of my visit are the Audi content, for there are many on the S car
list that are trying their darndest to top 400hp (spending exponentially more
money), and here you have cars (of which I personally saw 6 at this shop, and
another dozen kits ready to ship) with only 1/3 more displacement doubling
the best S car dynoed HP. It would appear that all the posts I've seen on
5in turbo pipes and Monster MAF meters can be brought to a baseline
comparison, that's all. How many folks would fork over 5500bux to get a
540HP I5? Hundreds have spent many times more and gotten a lot less. I know
cuz I've billed a few.
It's not rocket science, it appears to be the art and science of the rocket.
I share your evaluation of the SC (I can send a sympathy card to you too),
but remember a 800hp Supra TT is a supercar by any definition, putting 800hp
into the SC3 makes it a really powerful POS.
Those that think that my posts are inappropriate to audi lists, I say we
appear to be way behind the 8ball in current tweeking if 30% increases in
displacement yields over double the comparative and tweekable HP. We ARE
missing something, and it has nothing to do with your SC300 experience.

You can do pretty much the same thing to Lexus SC300 coupes as most of the
Supra stuff fits in the sc300 (same motor). A popular conversion is to
replace stock (crappy, very crappy tranny) tranny with the 6 speed from the
Supra; minor mods required to make it work. There are also supercharger and
turbocharger kits out there. But, at the end of the day...and I own one of
these coupes...what you have is a very fast...heavy...toyota with lots of
nice options (and a nice stereo stock; the nakamichi option is great but
stock is pretty darn good). What you also have is a car for which you
cannot buy decent shocks like Bilstein; stuck with Japananese crap. My car
is (stock) fairly quick but difficult to drive fast; you need to concentrate
and must "want" to drive fast. The steering effort becomes rather hard
pushing the sled, 'er car, through a corner.
