Ball joint quandry.

I recently acquired a '90 100 which had sat for several months. The driver's 
side ball joint groaned so I ordered a control arm and joint from ZZmotors. 
Of course, while the control arm is in transit, the groan went away. Is this 
temporary remission, or did the joint just need exercise?
