Bernard and all,
When I did this, I went to my local NAPA store and bought their "PRO" brand
of glass setting butyl tape, part #4195, at $8.00 or so for the roll.  It's
5/16" x 15'.

Remove all of the old schmutz and refit the replacement tailight with this
stuff.  If you want, you could gently warm it with a hair dryer before you
install the light.  Push firmly around all the edges and then rebolt.
