driving xcountry

ill be driving from cleveland, oh to seattle, wa in may, about mid-may.  this means ill have to go through the rockies, along with a bunch of other states, like montana, north dakota/south dakota, etc.

given that i haven't done this before, and am thinking of running summer tires, am i crazy/insane?  i assume the CO s-car mafia puts summers on around may?
