In-situ flywheel timing pin replacement

Well I fixed it pretty quickly & easily by cutting a 1/4" roll pin to the
proper length, sliding it over the existing pin and tacking it to the
flywheel with my mig.

The pin was shortened by the machine shop...they broke the original pin off
and put the new one in too far. Unfortunately I didn't measure it before
assembling everything. Lesson learned: "Measure twice, assemble once..."

Anyway, this solved my intermittent starting problem w/o having to pull the
tranny. Thanks so much to everyone who replied for the ideas.

This all sounds very hackish to me, and not in a good way. Besides fixing =
your pin, you should determine what caused it to break in the first place, =
one of the race cars I worked on in the past had the same problem, we final=
ly pulled the tranny and found a bolt that had gone astray and was breaking=
the pin off everytime we replaced it. In this case, droping the tranny ma=
y be a lot less headache than constantly dealing with broken pins and stall=
ing cars.

I hate dropping tranny's though, so I know your pain =3D)
