Post number 1 made to the torsen list last night:
I had an interesting conversation with an AMSOIL rep at a tradshow last week.
We were discussing different fluids etc...but, not having my manual handy I
couldn't specifically talk about what my Audi used for fluid.
He made an interesting comment when I told him that I've always used Redline
Oils in my tranny and rear diff...but I have a change interval coming up...
His comment was that Redline makes exceptional oils, but their quality has been
going downhill for the past number of years. Wouldn't say why, only that they
are more prone to failure then they used to be.
So, my question is this:
Redline or Amsoil in my tranny and diff? Why? Or, should I bypass both and
try a different brand?
-Dave
P.S. both tranny and diff on the 1989 90q use a 17mm hex right? I don't want
to crawl under in this 0deg weather...

Post 2, new to quattro list today:
Today I've done a little research on the cost of lubes.
Redline MT90 -> $17.00 Canadian a quart.
Redline 75w90 Gear Oil -> $17.00 CDN a quart.
I can get a good deal on AMSOIL products, only because a former employer
carries the products.
Amsoil 75w90 synthetic (_Supposedly_ GL-4 compatible) -> $10.00 a quart.
Amsoil 75w90 synthetic 2000 -> $17.00
Synthetic 2000 is their race branded oils...apparently VERY good. This,
according to the Toronto Supra Club who are ridiculously into their vehicles...
Other options I've discovered today:
M. Benz has a synthetic gear oil that they sell that is SWORN to be amazing by
a number of BMW and M.B. enthusiasts. GL-4 compatible and better then the
Redline oils...or so I'm told.
So my question is this:
I can afford up to $20.00 a quart for this job.
WHAT do I want to put into my Tranny?
WHAT do I want to put into my Rear Diff?
Anyone got a PhD in chemistry...specialization oils?
:-)
