manual window regulator

I will soon need to replace the manual window reg in my 82 Coupe.  One of the
gears has worn enough where it slips for half of its rotation...

I can get a new reg easily but I'm not going to pay $118 for one...

What I am trying to find out is if this regulator or its gears are
interchangeable with multiple years/models and even possibly
Rabbits/Jettas/Sciroccos...
