It sure would make installation/removal easier. I seriously doubt
any harm would be done by going to a belt a teeny bit longer, long as
you stay well within the adjustment range of each accessory(belts
will stretch a small amount.)

Nothing has changed on the car save the alt, and that pulley is
smaller(so new belt should be easier, not harder.)

No problem. I have all the new belts, but still working on getting
the old ones off; the alternator was so fussy coming off that I'm way
behind schedule.
At the moment, the A/C compressor belt is really tight and I'm
having a tought time muscling it off, despite the compressor being as
close to the engine as possible. Avi recommends turning the engine
by hand to get belts on/off...that looks like a swell idea. I
imagine I just need the right size socket and a sufficiently long
handle to get enough torque to spin it easily. I'm hoping to have
everything put back together by lunchtime if I start reasonably early
tomorrow.
BTW folks, does my idea of using the scotch pad stuff(artificial
steel wool, 000 grade) to clean the pulleys of accumulated
crap(there's a fair bit) seem like Good Idea or Bad Idea?
