... methinks that you are thinking about how far ahead the headlights
illuminate the road ... the law that Ned brings up is related to
*visibility* ... i.e. how far away others can see the light. It looks like
CA is slightly different from WA ... here's a snippet from the VC ... you
can see that there *is* a requirement for front signals here too:
24952. A lamp-type turn signal shall be plainly visible and
understandable in normal sunlight and at nighttime from a distance of
at least 300 feet to the front and rear of the vehicle, except that
turn signal lamps on vehicles of a size required to be equipped with
clearance lamps shall be visible from a distance of 500 feet during
such times.
... all that said, it sounds as though the suggested lights make use of the
high current filament on a yellow bulb ... I'm sure that would meet the
requirements because that is the same bulb that is used for many turn
signals. The "fog light" lens should be sufficient for focusing the light
in a way to make them visible ... city lights too I'd suspect.
Are you still down here in the south bay Mike? I had to chuckle when I saw
the comment about the license plate lights because I see so many cars on the
road with non-functional ones. One thing I noticed many years ago was that
it seems that Toyotas are notorious in that regard ... and that seems to
continue to this day. When you see a car that doesn't have the license
plate illuminated make a note of the marque ... I'll bet over 50% of the
cars you'll see are Toyotas. I think the actual percentage is much higher
than that ...
I've got the city lights on the urq's Cibies hooked up to come on with the
"marker lights" myself. I suppose if I ever find a euro bumper for my car I
may have to figure out some alternative like what is being discussed ...
BTW, welcome back Mike! Good to see you here again!
