I second Michael's comment on the extended warranty. If you bought the
car from an audi dealership the assured warranty i think is 5/100,000
miles from the first in service date. If the car's first in service
date was in 1998 then you're covered till 2003. I would encourage you
to also buy an additional extended warranty.
we had a 96 a6 wagon until 2 weeks ago when we traded it for a 2000 a6
avant. my main reason for trading was that we had a throttle switch go
bad on the 96 wagon at 62k that was $400. it was due for a 60k
maintenance service that was $700 plus the back rotors were shot and
needed to be replace $400. It can get pretty expensive. but 2 of these
were purely due to road miles. However, the throttle switch hit us by
surprise. And our audi was out of the assured warranty that lapsed in
august. we still had 2 years to pay for the car.( our "new avant" has 2
years left on the original warranty and the additional 2 years of the
assured warranty)
not trying to scare you.
I am addicted to audi's - like everyone here they perform great and
are very dependable - especially 93-02 models. great handling , rust
free bodies, smart interiors and quattro handling. plus your 98 comes
with tiptronic which is verrrry cool and the new body shape.
Also last point go to audi and have them pull up all the audi work that
was done. This will show all warranty work, recalls and what have you.
Enjoy your 98 audi
