The later 944's such as the S2, and the 968 had cam chains (not full
timing chains though), which also have been know to fail.  Tensioners
wear out and cause problems, and it gets very expensive.  Guy on the 944
rennlist board just had his fail a few days ago.  Tensioner failed,
causing the chain to rip apart the head.  On a 16v Porsche head, the
cost to replace is rather expensive.  I think he has been getting quotes
for 3-4k for a higher mileage junkyard replacement engine.  Parts only.
