We have a '94 100CS Quattro Avant. We took the car to Florida over Thanksg=
iving, and averaged around 22 miles per gallon. Here in rural Maine, now i=
n winter, we average in the 18 mpg range overall. This is not helped by my=
starting the car and letting it idle and warm up for my wife who uses the =
car for the most part. I would say that for an overall average, including =
all types of driving, these cars, up to MY1997, should average 16-23 miles =
per gallon. More than that is a gift, and I would think unusual, and less =
than that an indication that somthing isn't quite right in the fuel injecti=
on system someplace.

I am using regular (only Mobil) gasoline, also. I have found no noticeabl=
e difference between regular and premium...at least enough to justify the a=
dded cost per gallon. My V8 Quattro, gets slightly better fuel mileage, bu=
t only drinks super premium fuel.
