it looks as though the avantissmo is going to eventuate, as will the
rosemeyer concept car.  both (according to 'car' magazine) due to pressure
from audi usa.

also news that the days of the front overhang may soon be past us, with the
news that audi are working on a new transmission concept which will involve
moving the wheels further forward.  most likely using a concept similar to
that developed for the bugatti with a shaft alongside the sump and a diff
mounted at the front of the block.  most of the engineering for this would
already be in place with the arrangement used for existing auto quattro's,
and the work done on the bugatti.  no mention of what cars will debut the
new technology.  the new a8 would seem to be a candidate, but only if the
substantial portion of the engineering is already completed.  alternatively
the new a6 would be a good bet.
