Bentley for other Audi models advises using a 1/2" drive "drag link socket"
with the corners of its blade trimmed slightly to fit into the slots on
those caps. A hand impact wrench is the tool of choice. The seals are
just under the caps. The pistons don't need to come out.
I haven't been able to coordinate holding the pump fast, holding a hand
impact wrench against its spring tension and swinging a hammer at the
impact, so I use the drag link socket on an air impact. I retighten with
the socket on a breaker bar that I can smack with a palm.
