A few timing belts have gone before 60k, but not many. As far as your HP ratings, the 550 hp (405 kW) engine is built up by Dahlback racing. You can see the specs at http://www.audituning.com/english/main.asp Yes, it is a really built engine, but it has been done and done reliably. APR's Stage II kit (same K3 turbo) goes to around 220 on 1 bar, there are racing 1.3 bar chips designed for 103 octane fuel that go into the 240s. Yes, you are creating a LOT of heat and are out of the range of efficiency of the K3 at that point, but with a large FMIC it works fine.

Not to mention less weight up front w/ the 1.8T.

T-belt and tensioners seem to like to go south before 60k,
that's the problem.

Chip will take you to 197-210, no more with the stock K03. Remember,
we're talking about the longitudinal engine, it would be stupid to
swap in a Jetta/Golf/TT 1.8T which is oriented wrong.

K04 setup will get you to 245.

I don't know where you're getting 550hp from- APR Stage III+ with
the big FMIC is approx. 320, you need a huge, very laggy turbo to get
to 550hp and probably a stroker engine as well.

Techs will not be able to troubleshoot a 4kq w/ 1.8T at the dealership,
esp. if you have any electrical problems.
