As Huw posted, if you can get the nut off the back your in business. The
problem I ran into was that it wasn't as captive as the nut on the back. It
seems to be another wierd idea by some "superior German engineering" mind set
that makes absolutely no sense to me. A tee shaped bolt head in a round hole
not large enough to wedge the bolt.
I ended up using a long screw driver wedged against it, which was precarious
at best. Replace it with a real bolt if you can. You never know when you'll
be back in there. Thinking the starter will last another Xk miles is false
economy.
