folks,
I'm in the middle of trying to replace my front right outer cv boot on my 88
80q.
So far, I have the wheel off, the tie rod off and removed the ripped boot so
that I can see what I think is the CV joint. The shaft is still on the car.
According to the archives, the consensus is to remove the shaft from the car
and do the work on a bench. Tried using a 6mm hex but chickened out because
I had some slippage.
Question is, can I seperate the joint from the shaft while it is still
attached to the car? Also, how does one remove the joint from the shaft?
Bentley shows a special tool but I see in the archives that you can hammer
it loose. Any specifics as to how this is done?
Hoping I can complete this by Sunday night so I have a drive for Monday
mornings work.
Thanks
mohammed
