Assuming it is like the type 44, the answer is "maybe". Here goes...
* slot horizontal = trunk lock *disconnected* from central locking system,
and locked, push all you want it's not going to open
=> rotate w/key 90deg clockwise to get to "slot vertical" mode
* slot vertical = trunk lock *connected* to central locking system...if the
vacuum hose is connected and the ball bearing in the latch isn't jammed
(i.e. things are working properly), then when the doors are locked so is
the trunk, when the doors are unlocked so is the trunk - so ideally, if the
doors are unlocked you don't need a key for the trunk
* slot turned 45deg clockwise from vertical = key required (can't take out
key in this position), push to open
Then there is some owner/valet key difference thing so you can lock the
trunk and the valet can't get in there to get your golf clubs...as if you
would let someone else *drive* your quattro...
