Do this all the time -

Use 2X6 or 4X4 to distribute the load between points, depending on where
you are supporting.  Listen for stress noises when lowering the jack.  Make
sure you aren't pinching anything like brake or fuel lines.

[Hey. You can put the jackstands on the crossmember in between where the
control arms mount, or under any of the sub frame mounting bolts, or even
the
jack points if you're using a hydraulic lift to get the car up.
