Inexpensive on the car hub/wheel bearing tool recommendation (directions)

Well, about 60-70% of the time the hub comes out of the inner race, and
30-40% the bearing breaks. When that happens my solution is to take my
trusty 4" grinder and carefully grind the bearing race away on one side of
the bearing until I get near the hub, the bearing material is such hard
steel it usually cracks from the press fit once you get within .010 to .020
inches or so of the hub. IMO, if you accidentally nick the hub just a
touch, it should really not make much difference, at least the hub is not
bent from a monkey lad with a hydraulic press and bearing splitters at the
local garage.
Thanks,
Brian

Thanks for the info but how do you deal with getting the inner race off of
the
hub? On my 4kq the old bearing gets ripped in half when you press out the
hub
and getting the inner race off was much harder than the rest of the process
combined. I couldn't find a puller that would do it and had to take the
hubs
into the VW dealer. (they did it for free) Does the slide hammer leave the
bearing in one piece? That would be a great thing.

thanks

Luke
