type 44 performance exhaust

I am considering having a local muffler shop bend me a new exhaust for my '89 200tq. I currently has a zener/resistor ecu, blau 272 cam, MC1 engine w/k26. (Maybe 034EFI soon?)

I ran into some kids that work at an exhaust shop when I went to go check out the new Evo 8's at the Mitsu store here. They were driving a tricked out WRX, and heckling the salesman. Quite funny, but I digress. They offered to do a system from the turbo back for $250, and the one on the Scooby looked pretty nice.

I'm hoping to get some replies to the age-old questions:

1. Is a 3" system desireable or necessary, considering possible clearance issues? Will a 2.5" system flow just fine for a potential 300 hp?

2. What is a good flowing, but quiet muffler? I'm trying to keep my mods as stealthy as possible. 2bennett guys say anything that you can't see through is a waste, but I think those are too loud. I've had a good experience w/a Flowmaster on my 4000q. Max at AVS says he has a nice stainless Borla copy for $75 or so (I think.)

Thanks.
