OK, so here it sounds like you cam is off 180 deg.

Again, it sounds like the cam is off 180 deg.  I've
been told that these engines will run like this, and
fairly well which would explain how it ran before,
assuming they had the dist. all F'd up as well.  I've
never tried it...  I'd pull that cam cover to see if
your #1 valves are open when the flywheel is at TDC.
